The first idea that I have come up with for the 'Is It Art' work is a little piece that sits next to a piece of art within in a gallery. It is a piece that is passive, subtle and involves the artwork with its design. It can be written on and what people have written can be read... There are however some drawbacks because there needs to be a way that the answers people give are not just yes or no. The idea is to make the piece look like the information boxes you see next to art within galleries, and so would look normal within its setting, however its use is completely different to its counterpart.It reminds me of a piece that I was talking to Val about, where a girl a few years ago did a piece that was a fake PAT tested sticker, as she thought that everything in the school had to be PAT tested and found it funny so replicated this sticker and stuck it to everything, door frames, taps, toilets, which is a very clever and subtle way of doing something, which is something I would like to incorporate within this idea.
As you see in the link below these explanation labels are everywhere within galleries, so wouldn't look out of place. (the link is from that new google arts project, absolutely nuts that you can look at any gallery in different parts of the world, accessible art or what!)
