ACOUSTIC ENVIRONMENT OF COURTYARDS

I have always thought throughout this brief that courtyards due to the way they are made, hold sound and project sound very well, this is because of their shape and size. If a sound comes from the bottom of the courtyard it is going to be able to be heard from the top, possibly louder than it is at the bottom, due to the sound reverberating throughout the space, kind of acting like the cone of a speaker. Apparently it depends on the depth of the courtyard and the position of the sound (or in the case of this work speakers). Thus meaning that the courtyard of the Lethaby is the natural place to do it, as it is the core of the building and it projects sound around the space and other parts of the college.
